Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent mattress must provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Mattress Comparison
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dream Cloud Mattress Comparison
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Mattress Comparison
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional people to present their opinion as well. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply describing the feel of the mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Dream Cloud Mattress Comparison
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Mattress Comparison
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
