Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a excellent mattress must have. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Dictionary
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dream Cloud Dictionary
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Dictionary
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of the three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of those small ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I want to note that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other individuals to present their view too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than simply explaining the feel of this mattress for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dream Cloud Dictionary
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Dictionary
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
