As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our standards for what a quality bed must have. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Box Spring
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dream Cloud Box Spring
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Box Spring
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of these three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three other people to give their opinion too. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dream Cloud Box Spring
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Box Spring
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
