As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent mattress should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Brooklyn vs Avacado vs Dreamcloud Mattress
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Brooklyn vs Avacado vs Dreamcloud Mattress
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Brooklyn vs Avacado vs Dreamcloud Mattress
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of these three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three additional individuals to present their view as well. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this mattress for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Brooklyn vs Avacado vs Dreamcloud Mattress
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Brooklyn vs Avacado vs Dreamcloud Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
