Construction Are Dreamcloud And Nectar The Same Company
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Are Dreamcloud And Nectar The Same Company
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the spaces between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other individuals to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to just describing the feel of the mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Are Dreamcloud And Nectar The Same Company
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
When buying a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Are Dreamcloud And Nectar The Same Company
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
