Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our standards for what a quality mattress should have. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Allswell Versus Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

Construction Allswell Versus Dreamcloud
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Allswell Versus Dreamcloud
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their view as well. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than just explaining the feel of this mattress for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Allswell Versus Dreamcloud
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Allswell Versus Dreamcloud
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
